Join OCTAA at the Irvine Global Village Festival
THANKS - TEŞEKKÜRLERFor the 5th consecutive year, OCTAA took its place among the 31 cultural exhibits representing the Turkish Republic and the Turkish culture at the City of Irvine’s Global Village Festival held at the Bill Barber Park on October 3, 2009. At this event, our aim was and has always been to represent Türkiye as a modern, secular, democratic Turkish Republic, its people, and its rich culture. OCTAA’s booth was again the most colorful and popular among all of the cultural exhibits educating the greater community about Turkiye and sharing our culture, history, traditions, arts, music, and customs. Hundreds of visitors enjoyed stopping by our booth and sampling Turkish delight (lokum), pismaniye, and kolonya. We provided brochures about places to visit in Türkiye and a wide range of books on the founder of Turkish Republic Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, Ottoman history, Mevlana Celaleddin Rumi, and historical/religious sites in Turkey. We showed DVDs introducing regions and points of interest in Türkiye and Anadolu Atesi (Fire of Atatolia) performing Turkish folk dance. Visitors asked questions about our history, geography, culture, and popular places to visit. We greatly appreciate the volunteerism, support, and generosity of the following individuals who played a key role in the successful promotion of the rich Turkish culture and heritage to the greater communities in Orange County: § Golden Bridge Enterprises, Corp. and Engin Kadaster of Newport International Travel for donating 45 boxes of delicious lokum, pismaniye, and candy. Our visitors could not get enough of our national candy and came back for more. § Tina Elkins and George Medlock for beautifully performing Turkish music and belly dance. § OCTAA’s hard-working volunteers: Sevda, Keith, and Semrin Aleckson; Mine, Mehmet Ali, and Ece Tan; Aysu Tazebay; Arzu, Melis, and Mert Kocyigit; Sibel Turfanda; Ersin Sengul; Atiye Muftuler; Dilek Bayraktar; Ebru Culhaci; Ayca Altintig; and Nejat Yakupoglu for volunteering at OCTAA’s booth……and § All guests who visited our booth.
