FOR A BRIGHTER TURKIYE, WOULD YOU LIGHT THE WAY FOR A TURKISH STUDENT?
ÇYDD’S WOMEN’S SCHOLARSHIP PROJECT
Dear Turkish-American Community Members and Friends:
In our continued efforts to help improve educational endeavors in Turkey, two chapter organizations of the Association of Turkish Americans of Southern California: OCTAA and TALL have launched a collaborative campaign to provide scholarships for academically gifted but economically disadvantaged college students to help them continue their higher education and realize their dreams. This project is designed to provide quality education for young women who face economic hardship and to give them the opportunity to become leaders in their own communities.
Progress Requires Grass Roots Participation and Support from Our Communities - Education is one of the single most influential investments we can make in our homeland Turkiye. We can empower women and help them give back to their communities by providing a quality higher education.
This project is being coordinated in support of the Çağdaş Yaşamı Destekleme Derneği (The Association in Support of Contemporary Living - ÇYDD). These scholarships are managed by the ÇYDD-Şişli Division’s Board of Directors and the scholarship committee. The committee is responsible for carefully evaluating the background of each applicant to confirm their economic situation. The scholarships are provided as a monthly stipend based upon need. This year, the cost of scholarship per student is approximately $80 (or 125 YTL) per month and is paid from third week in November through June for 8 months. CYDD-Şişli Division has currently 157 applicants of whom 19 out of 132 interviewed are in a critical need for support. Without our help, these young women cannot continue their education.
By supporting this project, you can give the priceless gift of an education and create lasting positive change by empowering these young women with an opportunity to develop into productive citizens for Turkiye. Once these women graduate, they become volunteers for CYDD and many end up becoming donors to provide scholarships for other needy students.
As we approach the holidays and the end of the year, we invite you to take part in this worthy project and help invest in the lives of these young women, in turn; we will help our homeland develop to a level that she deserves. This campaign will end in January 2009, so please send your 100% tax deductible checks now with a note "CYDD Scholarship Campaign" to one of these organizations:
